The fasted growth in food & beverage products concerns products that are perceived as " healthy " by the European consumers.
The European population is globally aging. As a result there is increased concern that what is consumed is "healthy".
Next to the needs for convenience and good value , the European consumers do nowadays increasingly focus on the health and freshness of the products offered to them.
The fastest growing items are the ones perceived as " healthy " by the European consumers such as fresh herbs , spices, drinkable yoghurt, dairy substitute drinks, sports energy drinks, fresh ready to eat soup, fresh fish, fresh meat substitutes (soya products).
For the same reasons the general product areas " fruits & vegetables " and " cooking basics " are growing much faster than the average.
There is also a fast growing demand for " fair trade " labelled products.
